Hundreds Provided With Fresh Drinking Water

Fresh drinking water is a huge need in the Philippines, especially in many rural areas. As part of our vision to strengthen communities through assisting local leaders World Impact Network has sponsored training and supplied equipment to local well drilling teams working in the Philippines since 2000. During this time two rigs have been supplied, and dozens of wells have been drilled throughout the country. Many of these wells are in rural village areas and squatter settlements where fresh water is most needed.

WIN works hard to partner with and develop community leaders in these rural areas. We believe building infrastructure and augmenting agriculture and industry in the rural areas is the only way to reduce poverty and arrest the ongoing migration to the inner city which is stretching resources and placing a strangle hold on the success of future generations. Inner city conditions have worsened as families continue their migration from rural areas in their quest for a better life. However, the obvious question remains: how many more people can a city of thirteen million take with little or no supporting infrastructure?

Our vision is to help bring about a solution to these growing problems by partnering with community leaders, providing equipment, and conducting training in order to supply fresh drinking water through quality wells to areas in need. Local teams receive intense training first in the classroom and then hands-on in drilling a well. Classroom time is spent giving practical instruction as well as imparting community management concepts, such as treating well drilling as a community affair by including local government and community members.  This is not a commonly taught idea.  Many leaders initially see a well as a method to control a village population, but teaching helps them to realize that partnership is better than the burden of total control, especially when it comes to maintenance costs and labor.
