SRI
LANKAN CHRISTIANS CONTINUE TO SUFFER ONGOING PERSECUTION
Nearly
4,000 Deaths Connected to Ethnic Conflict in Sri Lanka During the
Past 15 Months
Sri
Lanka was one of the hardest hit countries in the recent Asian tsunami
disaster, and efforts made toward rebuilding its infrastructure
will likely take months and even years.
As
a result of the tsunamis over 500,000 have been displaced from their
homes, over 30,000 are estimated dead and over 5,000 are missing,
according to the Sri
Lankan Centre for National Operations.
Even
before the recent disaster, World Impact Network had scheduled a
much-needed water well drilling training trip for 2005. WIN recently
returned from the Trincomalee district and their time there was
successful. They taught water purification techniques, distributed
school supplies to many local teachers, and provided grief counseling
for the many people who have lost loved ones in this disaster stricken
nation. You can view pictures by clicking
here. Q13 journalist Bill Wixey and photojournalist Bruce
Groves traveled with WIN and made their footage into a special report
entitled "Mission of Hope: From Seattle to Sri Lanka".
For a copy of "Mission of Hope" Please contact
WIN at (425) 643-8246 or toll free at (866) 793-6512. If
you would like to read Executive Director Gabriella van Breda's
complete Sri Lanka report please contact
World Impact Network.
Currently the Sri Lankan civil war
is raging. Within the past month all foreigners have been
kicked out of the country and many deaths have occured. World
Impact Network worked with local NGO ADT during the Tsunami Crisis
and it is organizations like that who are now responsible for handling
the social unrest. Click
