Philippines - Training
Trip

In 2003 we
shipped an additional well drilling rig to the leaders we have partnered
with in the Philippines in furtherance of our well drilling program.
Following that, a a team of skilled trainers was sent in he spring
of 2004 to conduct several weeks of intense training with three
teams using the new rig. Each team was instructed in practical skills
and the many aspects of planning a community well, and then hands-on
training was provided as a well was drilled in Rizal, a
Barangay of Antipolo City, a rural mountainous area west
of Manila.
Although
the drilling proved difficult due to the soil formation, some of
the problems encountered actually accentuated training with the
opportunity to overcome a number of obstacles. The team learned
how to identify conducive soil conditions, the parameters needed
to avoid water contamination, the digging of the mud holes, drilling,
how to set casing in the well, how to flush the well, development
of the well using the bailer, and the building and setting of the
hand pump. Now each of these teams are equipped to train and assist
other communities in need of fresh water.
